We developed bodhi to bridge the gap between you (the motivated gym goer) and your results. Throughout his 26 years working in and for fitness centers, Anthony Monetti saw a huge disconnection. Millions of people join a gym every year and a very small percentage of these people actually get the results they want. The missing components are obvious and we wanted to provide every motivated fitness enthusiast with the proper tools to support their ambition. Community support, structured fitness planning, and nutrition education are what we established to be our core values. Strength Training

Lifting weights don’t equal strength training. Strength training at bodhi begins with finding weights that challenge your muscles enough to produce strength When we train our muscles with resistance, the contraction that occurs on the cellular level (as long as the weights are challenging enough) is what builds strength over time. At bodhi, we believe in adding resistance (heavier weights) only when our members are ready and never until form and execution of exercises are mastered to the point on advancing. Safety first.

Hypertrophy Training

Hypertrophy is the textbook word for “muscle building”. Building muscle is the result of an increase in muscle volume or size due to an enlargement of its existing cells within the muscle. At bodhi we strategically pair select exercises with certain reps and sets that maximize our time in the gym to assist with building muscle. As a result of the more muscle, we have the more calories we burn during and post workout (even at rest up to 12 hours post workout) and the faster our metabolism can become. And no bodhi member ever complained about looking better or having to buy smaller clothes from losing weight. 😉 

Conditioning Training

Strength and Hypertrophy training are considered Anaerobic exercising as they both use glycogen (stored carbohydrates) as a main source for energy to create the muscle contractions needed. Aerobic (conditioning training) requires more oxygen as a main source of energy due to prolonged exercise duration, lasting more than 2 minutes at a time. Different reps, different sets, and timed interval training is important and we mix it up constantly with High Intense Interval Training (HIIT), Tabata drills during this week at bodhi. Training our heart and lungs to work more efficiently is key here and all of the bodhi fitness programs provide a conditioning component to ensure a balanced training plan. Healthy heart, healthy lungs, healthy mind, and body!

Fitness Program Design 

The bodhi fitness training program was designed to last month, not last night.  At bodhi, we believe in properly preparing your fitness plan to guarantee results. Building your best quality of life (our purpose) isn’t going to happen overnight and will require a strategy that is structured around your individual goals. First, all of the coaches meet as a team to discuss and strategize our plan, then we lay the foundation by structuring each workout, each week to cover all needs of the bodhi community. Once the plan is outlined we execute it precisely week after week. Proper preparation prevent poor performance, is our motto and all you have to do is show up. And be coachable, of course. 🙂

Injury Prevention

The often overlooked exercises and stretches that you have been avoiding or simply don’t know about are something we begin every workout with. The benefits of taking a few minutes before each workout to include 1-2 exercises or “drills” can prevent injury and will assist in maximizing your time spent in the gym. Most injuries are caused by some type of immobility that has caused compensation from other areas of the body resulting in overuse. Every workout done at bodhi begins with a mobility component and a proper warm up exercise rotation that support the main “work” in store for the day’s training plan.

Non-Linear Periodization

Linear means to arrange in or extend along a straight or nearly straight line. Non-linear is the opposite in that it is not arranged in a straight or near-straight line. Seems obvious right? How does this make sense when it comes to the unique approach to the bodhi fitness training program? Well, the bodhi fitness program is constantly changing up the exercise selection, reps, and duration of each workout. We have never done the same workout more than once here at bodhi. We believe in mastering exercises to ensure maximum benefits while reducing injury, however, we do not believe in boring, mundane workouts. So we always keep you challenged, engaged, and fit at the same time. Pretty noble idea huh? 🙂

Joint Functions

Working out the muscular system is important and we do plenty of that. However, the bodhi fitness program dives deeper and focuses on making sure you properly work the entire body from a musculoskeletal standpoint. The human musculoskeletal system provides form, support, stability and movement to the body. Aside from muscles, this system consists of cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints and fascia which are actually more important that how are bodies look in that evening gown or bathing suit. How well our bodies move is crucial to long term health and we commit ourselves to making sure all of our fitness programs cover all components. Every day, every week we incorporate multi-joint exercises and isolation exercises,  using a variety of human movement planes of motion to provide our members with the most balanced fitness training plan. We don’t leave any muscle or joint function unturned, or unworked. 😉

Core training

Core training is the core of the bodhi fitness training program. When you think core, don’t think abs. If you were to place a dot on each shoulder and each knee front and back, and connect the dots you will see that the core is much more than abs. Shoulder and hip health play a crucial role in core stability and also determine how well we move and how long we live free of pain. Shoulders, Upper back, low back, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and abdominals all make up the core, in our eyes. Since core strength is so important, we make sure every workout has a core strengthening component to ensure maximal benefits while reducing the risk of injury.

Functional Training

What is functional? Doing bicep curls may turn your arms into sexy slabs of meat and we do perform them of course, but do they actually help with everyday activities? Maybe. But more importantly, we educate you on our top 6 major exercises that can assist you when performing activities and everyday living. Squats, deadlifts, shoulder press, rows, pull-ups, and bench press are multi-joint exercises that are primal in a sense that they can be related to movements and activities that you will do throughout your life without even knowing it. We educate you on how to properly move your body so when life happens and you need to lift, climb, push, pull or move furniture you can do it with ease and not get hurt. We train for life, not just to look good. Although, looking good never hurts. 🙂


At bodhi breathe (located in Downtown Somerville NJ at 19 North Doughty Street) we focus on stress management and relaxation. With so many life stressors constantly being thrown our way  that sometimes we can not avoid, we believe in taking some time to decompress our bodies and our minds. Yoga has been shown to:
