I felt like I never wanted to wear sleeveless tops because of my arms. But now, I feel confident and strong and I love when I catch a glimpse of my arm muscles in the mirror 😉
The exact moment I decided to transform –
Ironically enough, there wasn’t an exact moment in which I decided to transform, it sort of just happened! Pete and I knew that we needed to get in shape and figured we might as well check out the gym right across from our apartment, cause how convenient would that be?! When we walked in and started talking to Karen, we were sold right away! When she explained the style of the classes and the value placed on community at Bodhi, it sounded perfect. We might have gone in just to get information, but we walked out with our baseline appointment scheduled! I knew we had made the right decision and couldn’t wait to get started!
What did I see in the mirror –
Before I started with Bodhi when I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw potential. I didn’t necessarily feel like I needed an extreme makeover, but I knew I could look better, of course! Like anyone else, in front of the mirror my eyes cruelly traveled to my most self-conscious places: my arms and belly in particular. But now that I’ve been with Bodhi for over a year, I look at myself and feel so much confidence. I feel strong and I can see the results that I’ve worked so hard for.
How much weight have I lost–
I haven’t lost much weight, probably only about 5 pounds, but I’ve gained muscle, that’s for sure!
Biggest challenge –
Before joining Bodhi, my biggest challenge was finding motivation and time to actually go and work out. Somehow there were always a million other things that needed to be done that took priority over my work out. But that’s the beauty of Bodhi, that problem was solved because the scheduled classes took the decision-making and planning out of it. There was no longer a need for me to figure out when I would squeeze a work-out into a busy schedule, because I knew I had to be there once I signed up for class! Now that I’m here, my biggest challenge is burpees! 😋
I am proudest of and consider my biggest accomplishment to be the improvements I’ve made in upper body strength over the last year or so. Before, I felt like I never wanted to wear sleeveless tops because of my arms. But now, I feel confident and strong and I love when I catch a glimpse of my arm muscles in the mirror 😉
One word –
When I want describe myself now, the word that comes to mind is “confident” – I feel great and have been working hard to get here, so I’m loving it!!
What would I say to someone-
The advice that I have for someone who is considering making a healthy lifestyle change is: DO IT, but do it with patience! And know that even when it’s hard, it’ll be well worth it in the end. Changing your lifestyle is an enormous undertaking – we humans are absolutely creatures of habit. It can be tough to break your old ways, but many small changes little by little add up to a whole new lifestyle in the end. Don’t lose hope and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t have a great day – it happens to everyone! Just pick up and keep going the next day!
