Hip Stretches – 2 Simple Moves to Loosen up Tight Hips

Tight hips can be the result of many different things, but one thing is certain; tight hips can lead to back pain and pore posture.

Sitting for prolonged periods of time has become a very common cause of tight hip flexors, and hamstrings specifically. Just think of all the sitting we do on a daily basis; at breakfast, during the commute to work, at work, lunch, dinner and the list goes on.

We’re aware of your tight hips we work on hip mobility every day at bodhi! Here are a few of our favorite hip stretches that require minimal time but offer maximal benefits.

Banded Hip Distraction

A few things to keep in mind while doing the banded hip distraction:

  • Line up the band on a strong surface at about knee height
  • Place the band at the crease of your hip just under your glutes
  • Make sure you are far enough away from the band anchor point to allow resistance the whole time
  • Squeeze the glute of the banded leg to allow your hip flexor to open up

 

Banded Hamstring Stretch

A few things to keep in mind while doing the Banded Hamstring Stretch

  • Line up the band on a strong surface at about knee or waist height
  • Place the band on the front crease of your hip
  • Make sure you are far enough away from the band anchor point to allow resistance the whole time
  • Don’t be afraid to swing your hips from side to side to dig around corners of the hip joint
  • Keep back straight (neutral spine) think of “folding over at your waist”

The hip joint is a referred to as a “ball in socket” joint meaning it has the ability to rotate. You will not break, take time to “find the funk”. The funk is the super tight areas that bring relief when you discover them. Spend more time here because it just makes sense to find and stretch out whats most tight for you.
