Puja Patel – bodhi Success Story
The exact moment I decided to transform –
Growing up I had always been mindful of exercising and trying to stay fit and would go in and out of routines and regimens but as lift went on I made up more and more excuses to not really keep up with it.
It was about a two years ago when I just wasn’t feeling great about myself…really it was a picture I took on vacation and it was so awful I almost fell out of my chair! At that time I started to implement better habits into my life which started with the treadmill because I believed that if I incorporated some cardio into my life I would be able to see results. I also started to eat cleaner but was really just making minor modifications at the time.
Little did I know that it was way more than just a little cardio and minor food modifications! Some friends recommended that I start to lift and as someone who wanted to trim down the thought of lifting scared me because the last thing I wanted to do was to “bulk up”.
That is when I knew that I had to figure it out and be better for myself and for my future self.
What did I see in the mirror –
When I looked in the mirror before starting my journey I just saw someone that lost control of their body and was I extremely disappointed in myself. I was starting to buy clothes in sizes I never thought I would purchase and realized that things needed to change.
Now when I look in the mirror I see someone who is so much more confident. I see a girl who is probably in the best shape of her life – stronger and leaner and I never thought it was possible!
How much weight have I lost–
At one point I had gotten up to 134 and I am now down to 114 which is a solid 20 pounds – it hit me one day when someone said wow you lost the weight of a decent size dumbbell! I carry that dumbbell around the gym right now and can’t even imagine having that much more weight on my body!
Biggest challenge –
My biggest challenge was understanding the right balance between all the different types of training plus the nutrition aspect. I had no idea I needed strength and cardio and proper nutrition to actually make gains the right way. I did ok with my first 10-15 pounds but I got to a point where it started to become more difficult to drop and the combination of weights plus cardio plus nutrition has been doing the trick!
Biggest accomplishment –
My biggest accomplishment has been getting to a place where I am proud of myself for getting to where I am because I had no idea it was possible. I still have work to do but now I have the mindset to know that anything is possible. I know it may sound cliché but it really is so true. The mind is a powerful thing and if you can train it to be better you will absolutely be better!
One word –
Proud of –
I am proud of being able to dig deep to be able to challenge myself both physically and mentally to reach my goals and sticking with it! It is VERY easy to let busy schedules get in the way but it’s so important to make time for yourself.
What would I say to someone-
I think it’s important to appreciate that results will happen overtime not overnight so work hard, stay consistent, and be patient. Set realistic goals and hold yourself accountable because it’s the only person that can do it!
I actually started to tell people that the gym is the ONLY place you will go where you may not want to go at first but you will ALWAYS leave happier. There is no other place where you can guarantee leaving happier and feeling good about what you just accomplished. I really live by this because there is not one day I leave the gym regretting going (maybe the next day but that’s just my body screaming for more ☺)
One word of advice-
Your body can do it – trust me…it’s now time to convince your mind. It’s just as much mental as it is physical…3 months from now you will thank yourself.
